Moulding Long Tube Parts

Specialist Long Tube Moulding

AAV Plastics has developed a speciality in injection moulding long tubular parts, offering a cost-effective alternative to conventional side-action tooling. Using a simplified wipe-off tooling system, we can produce much longer parts with excellent concentricity, while reducing tooling costs and complexity.

long tube tooling constraints

Wipe-Off Tooling

In this process, the part is moulded within the split line of the tool. When the tool opens, the part remains on the core between the faces of the mould. The part is then ejected, or “wiped off,” across the face of the tool to remove it from the core. This system allows for long tube moulding with variable core sizes. The only limitation is that the bore diameter can increase in one direction only. Despite this, wipe-off tooling is a proven method for producing accurate tubular components with reliable concentricity.

Proven Applications

We have successfully used this process to manufacture a wide range of tube parts, including:

Tigrox tube
Tigrox Banner Tube: A 1.05m long tube forming the core of our interchangeable printed barrier system.
PPS tube
PPS (Polyphenylene Sulphide – Fortron) Tube: 220mm long with a 5.5mm bore, manufactured for a level sensor system. The cut section demonstrates the excellent concentricity we achieve. The tooling is configured to allow a variety of threaded ends for different applications.

Cost-Effective Tooling Options

Our wipe-off system can also be applied to produce inexpensive parts that are fully formed in side actions. For added flexibility, we offer “kit” tooling, where only the cavity parts are manufactured and fitted into existing tooling components. This approach reduces cost and lead time. If required, these components can later be built into a stand-alone mould tool.
